Description

Wandsworth, now an inner London borough, was once a picturesque town on the river Thames about four miles southwest of London. In the eighteenth century it was a parish in Surrey, and the gentle rural landscape was scattered with estates owned by nobles and gentry, such as the Archbishop of York and Earl Spencer.
