umran is located at the foot of the eastern slope of the fault scarp, on a marl shelf. The site is bounded by Na.al Qumran to the south and by deep streambeds to the north, east, and west. The ruin is surrounded by valleys that impede its approach and protect it from water flowing down the hillslopes west of the Dead Sea.
