On 24 January 2017, the Australian embassy in Tokyo hosted an informal afternoon tea for three former Japanese ambassadors to Australia. We were fortunate to be present as Ambassador Yoshio Okawara (1976-80), Ambassador Masaji Takahashi (1998-2001) and Ambassador Hideaki Ueda (2005-7) generously reflected on their time in Australia and their interactions with Australia’s leaders and ambassadorial representatives in Japan.
