Dynastic presence, feudal allegiances, and military cooperation between the house of Luxembourg and the late Capetian and early Valois kings of France are easy to demonstrate. Influence and individuals’ identities, however, are much harder to substantiate, as they go beyond familial affiliation. Tags are often misleading. Indeed, this contribution characterizes as anachronistic the notion of a dynastic, genetic, definable ‘Luxembourgness’ which circulated across Europe with the movement of single family members.
